In the heat of battle and in the days and weeks that followed, a new language had to be committed to memory by MD staff, residents and support teams. Acronyms for incoming agencies and special terms and abbreviations used by emergency personnel had to be learned. Throughout the stories of the Crisis & Recovery section, many of these terms are used. A list of these terms is included below for reference.

ARC: Animal Rescue Center
AEMA: Alberta Emergency Management Agency
CEMA: Calgary Emergency Management Agency
DFAA: Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements

EOC: Emergency Operations Center
