Wildfire Index

The wildfire hazard is low in the Lesser Slave Lake region.

Before starting any winter burning projects, always consider the forecasted weather, the amount of snow and the potential to ignite surrounding grass or forest fuels.

Remember to go back and revisit your winter burns to ensure your fire is completely extinguished.

Current Wildfires

Since April 1, in the Lesser Slave Area there have been 146 wildfires and 139, 919.23 hectares burned. Of the 146 wildfires; two remain under control and 144 have been extinguished.

Fire Bans

There are currently no fire bans in the Lesser Slave Area.

October 31 marks the official end of the 2011 wildfire season. Fire permits are no longer required. 

Despite fire season being over, please continue to exercise caution when burning around dried grasses. If you are doing winter burning, please take the necessary precautions to ensure your fire is completely extinguished well before the next fire season starts.Even with snow on the ground, fires can continue burning long after you think they are extinguished. Please check on your winter burning sites throughout the winter and especially in the spring before the snow melts.
