Land Use Bylaw

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT | LAND USE BYLAW

Land use planning is the traditional method of achieving the vision of the future for a community. It is the process of managing land uses; promoting healthy growth and community development; and protecting the living, production, and recreational environments of a community. It expresses the community’s desires regarding where different types of expected growth will go, and in what densities, forms, and quantities.

The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River’s Land Use Bylaw articulates the community’s vision through a statutory document which regulates and defines how and where can occur.

The Land Use Bylaw implements the policy through a series of zones and standards. It specifically regulates the use, size, height, density, and location of buildings on a property within the municipality. It also helps to ensure that uses occurring on adjacent pieces of land are compatible with one another, so that all can enjoy the use of their properties, without impacting their neighbours.
