Waste Disposal
WASTE & RECYCLING
The Waste & Recycling section ensures solid waste management and recycling initiatives within the municipality are properly planned, implemented, and managed. The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River currently operates three transfer stations, which are located in Marten Beach, Smith, and Flatbush.
In addition, the Waste & Recycling section:
- Maintains recycling activity and waste disposal servicing;
- Mitigates long-term environmental risks while providing opportunity to improve recycling activity, diversion rates, and effective handling of solid waste;
- Coordinates the processing and sale of recyclable materials collected;
- Provides education to residents on healthy environmental practices;
- Collaborates with neighbouring municipalities and the Government of Alberta on environmental initiatives; and
- Operates as the managing body for the Lesser Slave Regional Waste Management Commission.
Lesser Slave River Waste & Recycling services are provided in partnership with both the Lesser Slave and Athabasca Regional Waste Management Commissions.
