The next municipal election takes place Monday October 16, 2017. Nomination day is on Monday September 18, 2017. Council for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River consists of a Reeve elected at large and six Councillors, representing two municipal divisions. Division 1 includes the communities of Flatbush, Chisholm, Hondo and Smith. Division 2 includes the communities of Mitsue, Marten Beach, Canyon Creek, Widewater and the land adjacent to the Town of Slave Lake.
To be nominated as a candidate in an electoral division, the person must be a resident of the division for six consecutive months prior to nomination day. The term of office is for four years. There is no limit on the number of times a Councillor can be re-elected.
